Breaking Up with Bad Habits: An Open Letter

Breaking Up with Bad Habits: An Open Letter

Dear Bad Habit,

It’s over.

We’ve been together for a while now, and to be fair, you’ve been consistent—consistently bad for me. You’ve been like that friend who always says, “Treat yourself!” when I’m trying to save, or “You only live once!” when I’m trying to plan ahead. It sounded fun at first, but honestly? You’re expensive, exhausting, and leave me feeling worse than before.

You’re all about instant gratification—that sneaky, “just one more click” on online shopping or the “I’ll start saving next month” excuse. And sure, it feels great in the moment. But then I check my balance, and suddenly, you’re nowhere to be found. The regret? Oh, that’s always right on time.

You’re like a subscription I forgot to cancel—constantly draining me while giving me nothing in return. I’ve realized that no matter how shiny your promises are, they always come with strings attached. And let’s be honest, the strings are usually tied to my wallet.

Well, no more. I’m breaking up with you. I’m moving on to habits that don’t sabotage my goals—ones that actually help me build the life I want. It might take a little more effort up front, but at least I’ll stop feeling like I’m spinning my wheels.

So, Bad Habit, this is goodbye. Don’t call me when I’m bored. Don’t text me when I’m stressed. And definitely don’t show up when I’m scrolling late at night. I’m blocking you and unsubscribing from your nonsense for good.

It’s not me—it’s absolutely you.

Goodbye forever, Someone who’s finally choosing financial freedom (and maybe a few good habits, too) 👋
